Reviews & Notes

of the books I've opened in 2025
The Strain by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan
?????

Library || ebook on kobo for $11.99 * 1.05 = $12.59

Reading in progress. Watching the show at the same time.

The Wall by Marlen Haushofer
★★★☆☆

Library || ebook on kobo for $16.95 * 1.05 = $17.80

It wasn't my usual read. No chapters threw me a little. I likely wouldn't re-read it. I only finished it because I liked the concept and a library due date motivated me. When I DNF something, it's usually because of the writing style. This writing style was completely fine, just had very few features to move the plot or character.

Biography of Silence by Pablo d'Ors
★★★★★

Bookshelf || $19.95 x 1.05 = $20.95

I started reading this from the library but fell in love with it. I haven't finished it yet but I purchased it. It's a slow read and re-read, and worth every minute.

Coming back to this site in 2025. I started it in 2023. I know I didn't finish this book but I'm sure I want to give it another try sometime in the future.

Let Me In by John Ajvide Lindqvist
?????

Bookshelf || unsure, was second hand

Coming back to this site in 2025. I started it in 2023. I know I didn't finish this book but I'm sure I want to give it another try sometime in the future.

Written in Red by Anne Bishop
★★★★☆

Library book || ($10.99 x 8) x 1.05 = $92.32

It took about 3 chapters for me to start enjoying this book and by then I was hooked. The pacing is good, the characters are fun, but some of the world building is so-so. I finished it in 3 days and I put a hold on the next in the series.

Updating this in 2025. I remembe rreading the whole series and enjoying it. Unsure if I'd read again but I'm not aginst the idea.

Star Trek #13: The Eyes of the Beholders by A. C. Crispin
★★★☆☆

Purchase || $3.99 x 1.05 = $4.19

These books read like an episode and I enjoyed it. They're not re-readable imo but a good way to pass the time, particularly while traveling. I'm adding this series to my to-read to-buy list.

Star Trek #14: Exiles by Howard Weinstein
★★★☆☆

Purchase || $3.99 x 1.05 = $4.19

I picked this up right after finishing book 13 and I enjoyed it a fair bit more. Still not re-readable but I enjoyed and finished both books while on the same 4 day trip. Great plane reading.

Dark Tarot by Christine Feehan

DNF || Library book || $11.99 x 1.05 = $12.59

The writing style isn't for me. I can't pinpoint the exact thing that wouldn't let me get into the book but 100 pages in and I knew I could return it.

Everyone's Getting Married vol 1 - 9 by Izumi Miyazono
★★★☆☆

Library books || ($12.99 x 9) x 1.05 = $122.75

A romance series focused on adults, a bit boring. It avoided a prolonged miscommunication trope. The ending felt a little rushed but drawing it out would have been a worse choice.

I wouldn't read it again but I would recommend it to others looking for a light romance.
